It's always a pleasure to announce news of more Kilchoman.
Now live on our shop, the 2021 release of Kilchoman Loch Gorm is a batch of 24 first fill Oloroso sherry butts from 2011 and 2012. The barley used was 50ppm and the casks were aged a minimum of 9 years before being bottled at 46%. Expect plenty of earthy peat and ashy phenols tempered by dried fruits, nuts, spice and leathery notes.
We’re also very excited to announce that some brand new Kilchomans will be arriving on our virtual shelves very shortly: the Kilchoman Comparison Series!
Kilchoman Comparison Series consists of two contrasting single cask editions of Kilchoman that were distilled a week apart in November 2012. Both were matured for eight years in top quality first fill Buffalo Trace bourbon casks before being bottled on the same day in February this year.
The big difference between the two bottlings is the barley source and peat level - one bottling is of spirit distilled from 20ppm 100% Islay barley, while the other is the standard Kilchoman 50ppm barley malted at Port Ellen. The Comparison series therefore offers a fantastic opportunity to truly appreciate the differences between these two different styles of whisky created by Kilchoman.
Kilchoman Comparison Cask 719/2012 is the Islay Barley version at 20ppm and came out at 55.7%, while Kilchoman Comparison Cask 726/2012 is the 50ppm edition and was bottled at 55.4%.
This Kilchoman Comparison Series should obviously ideally be sampled as a pair to really experience the differences between the two barley profiles, but sadly stock is very limited.
